I love to watch animated movies. Especially Disney movies onward from 'The Little Mermaid' and I have to say that I think Andreas Deja is the coolest. His characters are always so interesting!
But I especially love how he never seems to have forgotten what it is to be an amateur admiring the greatest.
Does anyone else have a favorite? |

not so much a favourite animator (as i don't really read the credits too closely), but i can say that the disney team have always done a great job in my opinion...I especially enjoyed Tarzan, Atlantis, Beauty and Beast and of cause Aladdin, but i enjoy all of them - I liked the Batman animated series - it really gave something to the Bat, not only the pictures, but the movement. Ummm, let me get back to ya on more later! _________________

Bruce Timm always counts.
And Mask of Phantasm was originally a theatrical release - so he's got movie animation cred.
Bruce is one of my favs, as is Marc Davis (Sleeping Beauty).
And Steven Silver of course! (he's the character designer for Kim Possible). _________________ Draw/Paint/Create EVERY DAY.

I don't think one can watch disney without admiring glen keane, whether they know his name or not.
The beast has always been a favorite of mine and in the realm of great-looking animated guys, aladdin has to be #1
I also like the work of James Baxter.
Although, to be truly honest, how could anyone just pick one? _________________ Check out my art?

Keeping in the spectrum of Disney animators (former), I've always been a fan of the Bitey films from Adam Phillips. You can check out his short animations at www.biteycastle.com. _________________ Check out Slip of the Pen comics at www.hd-image.com |

Glen Keane is one of my heroes. I found an old video tape at a yard sale that had a copy of the advanced screening of Beauty and the Beast (I think Disney released it as a box set or some such thing). They entire movie was there, but it vacilated from raw story boarding to final cut throughout its entirety. There were parts of the pencil tests that I loved FAR more than the final edit. (And I loved the final edit!) He is terribly gifted.
Chuck Jones was a genius, too. When he was directing and Mike Maltese was writing and Mel Blanc was acting... I fear there will never be another union of talent like that again.
My all-time favorite, though, is Hayao Miyazaki. The stuff he's done with Studio Ghibli is so wonderful it brings tears to my eyes. A million years ago my dad brought home a back pack full of manga, and Nausicaä featured prominently in one of those crazy phone books. I was dumbstruck. It was all in Japanese and I couldn't understand a word, but I loved it all the same. I finally got to see it (along with Totoro) at an anime club meeting in junior high and I about wept. (Of course, now nearly all of Ghibli's stuff can be purchased in any ol' video store- spoiled kids!). But seriously, I have loved every single project Miyazaki-sama has been involved in. The man's sensiblities thrill me like little else. _________________ "Some ghosts are sadder than others."

I gotta agree on this one...from all the anime i have seen, the Miyazaki is great - the stories are not what i would usually go for as i guess there are not many of them made by those of "western" culture. But they are really inspirational.
The first one i saw was Spirited Away (gotta love the baby), and with that release it kind of took off here in Aus and the others were being played on tv every week. There are still some i haven't seen yet, and many i don't own in my dvd collection (i only have Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle), but i hope to aquire them as time goes on! _________________

Spirited Away is the single most beautifully animated movie I have ever seen. I could find not one thing to complain about with that movie. And for anyone who knows me THAT is a compliment. _________________ "Sometimes people mistake the way I talk for what I am thinking"
